In 1917 The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared several times to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal. She asked them to pray for sinners and to make sacrifices. Mary also taught them the Fatima Prayer which she asked them to pray the at the end of each decade of the rosary.
“O my Jesus, forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell.
Lead all souls to heaven,
especially those who are in most need of thy mercy.”
Mary also told them many things about the future. At her last appearance a great miracle happened and thousands of people saw the sun dance in the sky. Saint John Paul II credited Our Lady of Fatima for saving his life when an assassination attempt was made on her feast day, May 13, 1981.
