Description
In 1531 the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a man named Juan Diego in Mexico. She asked to have a church built on the Hill of Tepeyac where the apparition took place. Juan Diego went to the bishop to make this request. The bishop asked for proof, so Our Lady healed Juan’s uncle and produced enough roses to fill Juan’s cloak even though it was winter and that kind of rose didn’t bloom in Mexico. When Juan presented the roses to the bishop they found a miraculous painting of Our Lady on his cloak under the flowers. This event eventually led to a massive conversion of over 6 million Aztec Indians. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas, and her feast day is December 12th.
